Hiya, my name is Michelle Genders. I’m a provisional psychologist and artist.
I have 3 years clinical experience supporting people with mild to severe mental health challenges. I completed 4 years of psychology at Macquarie University and 4 years of visual art at Sydney College of the Arts.
I’ve used a range of therapeutic approaches adapted the client’s reason for presenting including: psychoeducation, person-centred counselling, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT, DBT, ACT & Solution focused).
I provide trauma-sensitive treatment for people age 12 plus, specialising in the developmental stage of age 12 to 25 in my “day job”. I’m developing further expertise in creativity and art therapy, the trait of sensory processing sensitivity, and healing from intergenerational trauma.
I participate in regular supervision sessions and professional development to further develop my clinical skill. I’m a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPi) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
I have 20 years professional work experience in psychology research, private practice, non government organisations, employment services, disability services, tertiary education and visual art.
This includes my own solo exhibitions, curating and installing group exhibitions, my own work in group exhibitions and contributing to the Sydney art community with workshops and volunteering.
